The Copper Scroll (3Q15) found in Cave 3, in the area of Khirbet Qumran (near the Dead Sea), has been an enduring source of mystery and intrigue. It appears to be a list of locations for extremely large amounts of gold and silver, which were hidden during the time of the First Hebrew Temple. Despite multiple efforts, by various teams of people, the treasure has never been found. Subsequent to the search failures, some of the treasure seekers suggested the Copper Scroll is nothing more than an ancient prank. In response to this theory, scholars have noted that creating a detailed scroll, from a copper plate, was not a trivial matter. The scroll author devoted considerable time and effort to create a document that would last a very long, time.
